SUMMARY OF THE ROLE
Do you want to be part of the professional R&D environment in Jotun? Then this is your opportunity! As an assistant in R&D, you will assist the chemists in developing and maintaining products by making, testing, and evaluating paint/binder/raw materials to contribute to reaching the goals of the R&D plan. You will be part of a professional and vibrant environment and your workplace will be in our Research and Development Center located at our headquarters in Sandefjord. We are currently looking for five new assistants in two departments: Powder Coatings and Fouling Protection – Product Development.
Jotun's Fouling Protection lab develops antifouling products for both small boats (yachting) and ships. Jotun is the world market leader for ship antifouling. The Fouling Protection Lab is responsible for developing and maintaining the formulas that are produced at Jotun's factories in all regions. Additionally, they work on developing tomorrow's solutions for the antifouling market.
Jotun Powder Coatings is one of four main business segments in Jotun and one of the leading suppliers of powder coatings worldwide with 4 regional R&D centers and 10 production facilities. Our department in Sandefjord is globally responsible for our product portfolio which include coatings for everything from architectural facades to furniture or appliances and pipelines. The powder coating market is expected to grow in the coming years due to its sustainable advantages with reduced use of hazardous materials and no VOC, and the need for continuous product development and product improvement is ever present. At our headquarters in Sandefjord, you will work in a culturally diverse taskforce on global and regional projects, creating new and innovative coating technologies.
Responsibilities:
Prepare and test the department's products in accordance with request and instructions from chemist
Assist the chemist in making, testing and evaluate paint/binder/raw material according to given procedures
Report results continuously to ensure that stakeholders are informed
Knowledge and use of necessary safety equipment as described and to take into consideration general safety, this includes being able to understand content and the meaning of safety data sheets.
Attend to the daily order in the laboratory so that the work space is tidy, safe and pleasant.
Ensure that the necessary raw materials, packaging and other laboratory equipment are available to ensure an effective work environment.
Carry out other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- Vocational Certificate (preferable)
- English proficiency - intermediate to good, must be able to communicate in English.
